My name is Dave Hoskins. I live in Baltimore with my wife Kathy and daughter Abby, when she is not away at college.
This blog recounts some of the journeys I’ve taken, many of which involve biking from one place to another or swimming across bodies of water.
In the weeks leading up to the start of this blog, I remembered that one of the first things I learned in the Boy Scouts was how to use a compass to orient a map. The key lesson was that you can’t find out where you are or where you are going without first orienting a map and you can’t orient a map without first using a compass to find out which way is North.
In other words, every journey starts with Finding North, which is the title I have given this blog.
As I think back on all the journeys I have taken and about all of the journeys to come, I realize that I learned one of the most important lessons in my life as an 11 year old lost in the woods. And here is where I learned that lesson:
